My Inspirations

untitled (54)

Hey y’all! I’ve been accumulating a list of people who inspire me, all of whom have character traits which I admire. The list includes artists, musicians, and activists. Hopefully this will inspire some of you to look up these people and really see how they’ve impacted the world. First on the list are some individuals who caused a shift in politics, most of which you’ve probably heard from. This includes Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Margaret Thatcher. I had to write a paper about Margaret Thatcher last year, and I learned that she had a huge impact on British politics. She is also the only female British Prime Minister.

Two environmental activists that I admire are Sylvia Earle and Ric O’Barry. They have made an impact in how people view the ocean. I guess I should also mention that Harry Styles, the singer in One Direction, has also influenced some fans to care for the environment. He once stated at a concert, “If you like dolphins, don’t go to SeaWorld.”

Some other musicians I also admire are Taylor Swift and Amy Winehouse. Any of you who saw the Grammys this year would have seen Taylor make an empowering acceptance speech in which she says, “As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there: There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.” You go girl!

Have you ever wondered where The Weeknd got his “crazy” hair from? Just look up some images of one of my favorite artists, Jean-Michel Basquiat. He was a popular artist in the the ’80s and was friends with another one of my favorite artists, Andy Warhol.

Some writers that I adore are J.K. Rowling,  Maya Angelou, and Scott F. Fitzgerald. Hopefully y’all know about these authors, but if you didn’t know, J.K. Rowling is famous for the Harry Potter series, Angelou is an author and poet famous for I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and Scott F. Fitzgerald wrote my favorite book, The Great Gatsby (I still need to see the movie!).

Some other people I’d like to mention are Lizzie Velásquez, Paige Rawl, and Chris McCandless. They are some great role models for supporting individual identity and social justice.
