How to Dress to Impress

untitled (53)Hey y’all! I recently went to a science fair, where I had to present proposed research for an experiment, and I had to dress in a professional manner. The night before, I made sure to do some investigating on what is considered appropriate in a professional environment. I’ve decided to share what I found out with you! Tip #1: Blazers are super professional! Blazers give any outfit structure such as these from J.Crew, one of which is tweed and the other is wool. If you don’t want to spend all that money on a blazer that you’ll wear only a few times, this blazer from Forever 21 is a cute, inexpensive option.

Tip #2: Don’t wear anything with too much color or pattern. At my science fair, the majority of the other competitors wore black, which is fine, but after a while you start to feel like you’re at a funeral. There are so many alternatives to black! Neutrals, pastels, and navy blue are great options! This collared shirt would be really nice with a blazer over it, but if you want something that has some kind of pattern, this striped shirt would be cute tucked into a skirt. Tip #3: Wear an appropriate length skirt or dress. There was one girl yesterday who had a very short skirt, which can pose some issues when you’re trying to set up a presentation. This was the skirt I wore, which was the perfect length. Something similar would be this cute gray skirt. If you don’t want to wear a skirt, this dress is a great outfit option!

Tip #4: Wear comfortable shoes. If you’re going to be on your feet for a long period of time, you probably shouldn’t wear super high heels. Your feet will be killing you! I suggest wearing a pair of flats like these, but if you really want some sort of a heel these nude pumps are a cute option.

Tip #5: Hair! Some people get distracted by their hair when they are making a presentation and start twirling it. If that’s the case, I suggest pulling your hair back into a sleek pony. If you don’t like having your hair in your face, but want to wear it down, do a half-up, half-down style. Otherwise, you can do almost anything with you hair! You can wear it straight, curled, natural, whatever, as long as it looks nice! Hopefully this helped a few of you who have an event where you have to dress to impress!
